UK children, age 15, 'being groomed for terror plots'
His remarks came on the eve of the Queen's Speech in which ministers are expected to outline contentious plans to increase the length of time a suspect can be held without trial beyond the present 28 days. Although Mr Evans side-stepped the impending political row, he laid bare the extent of the terror threat facing the UK. And he endorsed Gordon Brown's assessment that Britain was facing a "generation-long challenge" to defeat extremism. He revealed there are at least 2,000 individuals who posed a "direct threat" to national security and public safety because of their support for terrorism. This is 400 more than revealed by his predecessor, Dame Manningham-Buller, a year ago. The agency suspects there could be another 2,000 who they are unaware of, he added. Mr Evans said he did not think the level of terror threat against the UK had "reached its peak" and warned recent attacks were not simply "random plots by disparate and fragmented groups".
Doff the crown, Mr. Mayor
I have a better chance of being asked to give the keynote speech at the Democratic convention than Mayor Willie Herenton has of getting an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution removing the power of suburban voters to veto consolidation with the city of Memphis. Gerald Gaia Oxford, Miss. Go to the source, the Constitution The Dec. 31 letter to the editor "Founders' mistrust was justified" contains a conceptual flaw inherent in many opinions about the issue of religion and its place in government. I'd like to set the record straight. The Founding Fathers were not trying to prevent the church from having influence over the government or the state. They were, in point of fact, trying to prevent two things: (1) the government from having control over religion, and (2) the establishment of a state religion (as in the official Church of England).
Back against the wall
I remembered what a great job he did with that Broadway-esque sort of thing and when I was thinking about The Trial and the attitude of all of the characters, the wife, the teacher and the judge, I just thought, You know, Malcolm could just eat this thing alive, which he did. I also thought that having the guy from A Clockwork Orange, that incredibly violent character, added a special twist to it. It made sense because although it is sung, it is really more acted. Was the actual compilation of the performance tracks done by e-mail or did you have people come into the studio to do their bits? The tape thing is all in the past now, it is more about uploading and downloading files these days, which I am a big fan of because it is so much faster and straight to the point. I would say that it was about 6040 with the sixty percent being the sharing of files over the internet.
