Ending domestic violence
The Women's Center of Carbondale provides free and comprehensive services to survivors (women, men, adolescents, and children) of domestic violence and sexual assault; in addition to offering secure shelter for women and families hiding from abusers. According to Doris, in fiscal year 2006, the Center assisted 1,162 women and children with domestic violence and sexual assault services; provided 6,027 nights of safe shelter and answered 15,138 crisis hotline calls. I was inspired by Cat Stevens’ song, "The Wind," which I cover on the album. There is a line in it that says, "I let my music take me where my heart wants to go." Music for me is my healing machine.

Mortgage sector cut 86,000 jobs in 2007
California was home to one of the nation's largest subprime lenders, New Century Financial Corp., before it filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2007. Baker, the law school graduate, said schools need to develop clear policies on how to handle students who seek personal help. A law school administrator from Mississippi said his institution requires that admitted students with documented problems have a meeting with a counselor before starting classes. Panelists praised that program but said such troubleshooting is still too rare.
